Using smaller tools on a larger lathe?

Have you ever used a 4way? I have 3 lathes at work 2 have QCTP and one has a 4 way witch has a Right hand tool, left hand tool, and a threading tool. The 4 way is much faster and easer to use than the QCTP.

I have used a 4 way tool post. I'm not a fan of it.

The Four-Ways do seem faster when I watch YouTube videos. But... it’s all relative because if you need that fifth tool, then you need to break out the Allen wrench to change a tool.

If you have a lot of tool holders, more than 4 and non repetitive operationsthan a qctp is best.
Of course a dedicated lathe with 4 way, maybe a turret post...well you get the idea of the possibilities $$

Use what you have.
Like the saying goes, "You can put a boat on a ship, but you can't put a ship on a boat".
Eventually you can start to upgrade your cutters, holders and tool post.

When I got my larger lathe, I made a 1/4 inch adapter for the BXA toolholder by milling a 1/4 inch x 1/4 inch slot in a 5/8 inch (toolbit size for BXA) piece of stock. Actually has come in handy a few times making small pieces in a collet, can get up close to the work with the smaller bits.
