Yes, a mill in a static condition can bite you! I had an R8 mounted drill chuck in the quill, removed the twist drill and loosened the draw bolt to remove the chuck, I smacked the drawbolt with a deadblow hammer with my hand positioned under the chuck to keep it from dropping onto my work piece. At that time, the quill return spring broke allowing the chuck, spindle and quill to come crashing onto my hand, bruised but not seriously injured because I had removed the twist drill before smacking the drawbolt. LESSON LEARNED. ALWAYS LOCK THE QUILL in the up position before placing anything under the quill/spindle. OUCH!!!!
