I have a clamp on vise work stop that will work well on materials down to about 1/4”. I need to clamp some 3/16” key stock and drill a hole in the center with a 1/8” drill. Using my DRO, I can pretty well find the center of the block. However, getting repeat pieces back in the exact same spot has proven difficult. I need to make a stop that will work with the 3/16 material. Thinking of just making a U shape clamp with the inside leg .030-.050 under 3/16”. Any thoughts on this? Needless to mention, I would drill and tap the outside leg for a set screw to hold it in place.

When I have small parts like that, I line them up to the vertical side of the fixed jaw.

I tried doing that and it didn’t work well for me. In theory it should do fine, but it just wouldn’t repeat every time. I came up with something that does work though. Gonna see if I can attach a picture. F882C951-1296-4822-9100-74393B5FD20C.jpeg7A1A4611-751E-4741-BC4F-3A744E03BE9D.jpeg

I have these 2 one bought from edge technology both work in certain situations the one I made has one 1/4 ×20 socket head screw in the center to pull it together and is tapped on the side for any length 1/4×20 bolt I made it so the bolt sits a lil farther out than the one from edge and reaches some stuff the edge one doest since the rod on there's sits so close to the vise jaw there's plenty of videos on making one on youtube as well some really nice ones I just made a quick and dirty version to do to finish up my project without starting a huge side project which I have a tendency to do lol20180219_203926.jpg20180219_203939.jpg

I have one like the red one. It’s my go to for most things, though I had to shave a bit off the front so I could use it on 1/4” stock. The one I made works they same way but will work down to 1/8”
