Yesterday in the shop I was reaching to put away a drawer into a cabinet when my arm brushed the shade of an extension lamp on the bench.
The lamp was off, so I thought it wouldn't be "hot".......how wrong I was!

Here's the lamp:

and the "elbow" joint:

...and where the wire insulation was rubbed/cut thru:

I have a couple more of those lamps I should go inspect!

I have already cut the cord off so it won't get used as is.
I am considering converting it to LED.

brino, Good point! It is something that most of us would never think about. I just checked my three lamps and they're OK. Thanks!

I checked another similar one that I have on the mill table, and it has square plastic "grommets" protecting the wire where ever it comes thru the steel tube.
Still one more to check......

Wouldn't you think it was ripped when installed and broke through during use . Or it was tugged to much then bent and cut. I've rewired everyone I ever bought because of those problems. I too will being going with the new led lighting . Most of my fluorescent bulbs are going bad more money I don't need to spend. Fun to touch something and your eyes light up. I use to get tingled while welding in the summer sweaty arms and zap .
