What the heck is this contraption?

This came out of a box of stuff I picked up at an estate. I believe it all goes together in some form or fashion but I have no idea what it's for. It appears to be some sort of indexing device. The casting has no markings on it. The only markings I can find are in the spindle area. The spindle has a Brown & Sharpe number 10 to number 7 adapter and the collet is a Bridgeport Brown & Sharpe number 7 collet. The large gear is a Boston Gear gear.

The second to last looks like it will go on a lathe or mill with dovetail ways and the collets would be to hold an end mill so maybe a grinding fixture, does the casting say anything at all?

I wonder if that’s the drive for a B&S universal head to make spiral gears? Hopefully benmychree will be along shortly and clear this up. Nice looking stuff though :)

Yes, the second to last pic appears to clamp to dovetail ways. I was mistaken about the casting. I don't see a name but it had this casting mark in the pic. The casting has a B&S 10 taper and as stated has a reducer to B&S 7 with a Bridgeport no. 7 taper collet.

I think I figured out at least part of the contraption. I got these two pieces put together and I think this makes sense.

Does not look like anything that B&S made.

It does look like it could possibly do spiral work and could index to work for a fixed number of divisions.
