Wilton Bullet Vise

I have a strange looking Wilton out in the garage and have been looking for any information on it . I'll have to take a pic and see if anyone recognizes what vise it is .

Here are the vises . The blue 5 1/2" Wilton is marked 4500 and haven't seen one before . Next is a 6" Wilton bullet , next is an unmarked 5 " Made in USA " vise , looking for info on it , next is a 3 3/4" Littco made up in Littlestown Pa .

Looking for any info on the blue Wilton and the 5" unmarked vise .

I did find out the 4500 is a mechanics vise but still don't understand what purpose the rear jaw serves . :dunno:

The Wilton is interesting...

Just a WAG... If you run the dynamic jaw all the way out, can you run it back in the other side? The other jaw may be to allow you to hold bigger work over the anvil...?

Poulon chainsaws? Yuck.. made that mistake once.. The damn thing had a time limit on it. I found a label inside saying only good for 100 hours...
It didn't even last that long.. Who puts a label in saying it's only expected to last 100 hours.....????????

Husqy or Stihl... they don't come with labels predicting their end of life.

I have 3 Poulans , 2 Huskies and a Stihl . They each have their chores . I'll be pulling the Husky 395XP 36" bar out today . I had a 47" diameter oak log delivered yesterday and need to make a planter out of it . :encourage:

I finished painting another vise this morning...

This was the one that was in pretty nice condition... I have two sets of jaws ordered, one set for this vise and one set for the vise that I had the problems removing the screws. Once I get the jaws installed, this one will be ready to bolt down and use.

This morning I started whittling out a set of jaw inserts from a piece of O1...

After drilling and counterboring the screw holes, I set up the horizontal mill to machine a diamond pattern on the face of the inserts...

That is pretty slow work...

Next, I'll try to figure out how to heat treat them, I'll start a thread about that... then they will go on the surface grinder.

awesome work! Reminds me that I need to make a set of serrated jaws for my bullet. It currently has smooth steel jaws and they just don't grip well enough for some work.
