Win. 1886 takedown conversion questions

Another point, as in manufacture is Savage. Their Savage 99 Takedown is very different. Simply screw the barrel into the receiver some what tight and the forearm is attached into a recess on the receiver face to hold it in place. I have one of those as well.

Thanks Pierre, ok come on guys, dig those calipers out and measure those magazine tubes and take a picture or two. I've only got a question or two more. Help me and others out here.

Ok guys we're almost there, don't drop out now.

You know we are always learning, at 73 I'm learning every day. We also should never discourage folks with questions, like some very big sites do....but encourage people to ask questions and help where we can. The answer to any question is never "NO", but only, How do we get there, anything is possible if we put our mind to it and the more minds the better. This is a great learning site, people contributing
to the end result, never saying" What you want to do that for kid, you'll shoot your eye out!"

I'm attaching the takedown conversion stuff from the NRA book. I hope it helps someone down the road.

Ok, just bought 48 inches of 3/4 dom tubing in two orders. I can machine to needed od taking into consideration needed thread depth. I can machine the receiver tube hole maybe just a tad and i have some mag tube rings i made...so i could enlarge that hole to fit. The id of the tube is
620-.625 so that should work for 50-100 or 50 s&w

It will take a little more thinking especially the receiver mag tube hole.

It appears 1886 black powder receivers had a large circluar divot taken out in the area of the magazine tube hole so i will have to deal with that
See picture, i tried to hi-light hole area

Has anyone done one of these conversions with interrupted threads, a 90 degree turn and slide the barrel out, as opposed to 5 or 6 or more complete turns to unscrew? The interrupted threads would probably add to the difficulty. But seems like it would be a better way to get the gun apart. Seems I saw a recent manufacture if this, maybe Chiapa.

Quarter turn abated threads will work with any thread profile. I guess the barrel threads in the receiver would need to be broached, not too difficult I imagine. What book did those drawings come from?

If anyone has the square thread info on any of the magazine tubes ie thread width, depth etc. I'd sure appreciate it.
