Getting pretty close on the mating surfaces of the receiver and plate. Divot fits well and mag tube is done. Still more filing to mate the plate and receiver, but I'm wore out for an old man....

Have decided to go with 50 short.

Even with 50 special (short)you need to keep pressure in line with strength of firearm. I have rebarreled several rolling blocks , martini’s,1885 Winchesters keeping in mind what they were designed for. Black powder pressures. Which can be duplicated with smokeless powders. You’re doing a great job on your rifle.

Ok guys this is more than likely the last post by me on this thread. I've got about .008-.010 of filing to do on the mating surfaces of the plate and or receiver surface. I will then thread the barrel hole of the plate and drill and tap for the 3 pressure screws. I'll then finish fit sanding the perimeter of the plate and receiver.

I'll then do a barrel...contour, thread, chamber, fit and final chambering for headspace. The barrel will take me a few months after which I'll do the wood and finish.

I want to thank all who followed along, offered information, answered questions and encouragement. Thank you all.

Hope to see everything at the other end.

Will leave you with a short griz video up on my place.....I figure there are about 10 bears that frequent the area, more than half are grizzlies. No matter what anyone says they are thriving, have no enemies. We have two large saint bernards and they take care of our house and surrounding area they have never known a fence and go with me everywhere even inside the local watering hole in our small town.

Have to be careful out there. Here it’s the two leg types and some coywolfs.

Mike, did you decide on whether or not to rebate the barrel threads for fast assembly? I can just imagine counting 12 turns to assemble while staring down a grizzly like Davy Crockett. I'd be considering slightly oversizing and re-threading the receiver for acme threads or even two-start threads, then rebating the threads for rapid engagement and a 90-degree lockup.

I think I'm going to leave threads as they are.....I'll just turn a little more

Check out this guy from a few years ago.

Those are some well feed grizzlies. I had a young sow a couple years ago hanging out on and by my place a few years ago. You are right about there numbers and the areas they are being seen. Plenty crossing roads and coming to town. The bear managers are kept busy.
