I need to make a worm and worm gear. The parts list calls for an aluminum worm gear and a 932 bronze worm. The worm is keyed to a stainless steel shaft. Not sure why bronze, I'd rather use brass as I have it in stock. Any reason I couldn't swap it out?

The bronze is much stronger. If the gear is aluminum, I wouldn't see any reason you couldn't substitute brass based on the information given. What part in the assembly would you prefer to strip/break first?

It's a fixture for stamping dials so no force at all. Manually operated.

I can't see any reason why you couldn't use a brass gear against an aluminum gear

bronze would wear longer, but the aluminum will wear before brass or bronze

Thanks guys. Brass it is then.
