I want to build a z axis stop for the knee of my mill. I think I want something that clamps across the dovetail on the column. Has anyone made one?

What would be the ideal thread pitch for the adjustment screw?

Thanks

Assuming that you want some sort of fine adjustment, then 20 tpi (.050/rev.) is the most likely choice.

My Smithy lathe has dovetail ways so I built this. I can substitute a dial indicator for the thimble, but one could use a threaded stop. Might want to scale it up a tad depending on the size of the mill. 20201015_120135.jpg
