Well actually I picked up machines today...the "stuff" was delivered yesterday. I bought a lathe, mill, and a trailer load of "stuff". I was really most interested in the lathe. I have spent about 5 hrs sorting through tooling and misc. stuff. The lathe is a Polamco TUM 35. I had to power it after getting it unloaded. Seems kind of strange...I can get my feeds if the feed screw is turning cw but if I reverse it, no feeds. I haven't looked at the manual yet but if someone has this model lathe I would be interested in finding out if something is broken or if I'm overlooking something. The mill I haven't messed with yet. It's a gorton O16 model. I saw it run before I bought it. Both machines have been sitting unused for a while. The owner passed away and his brother couldn't tell me much about them except that he was sure they were in good working condition. Here's some pics:

Looks like you made a good purchase for your shop---that's always fun if you have plenty of room for it. Dave

Wow! Quite the haul you made.

That Gorton will be a nice machine. The Gorton spindle is renowned for accuracy and smoothness. You'll like that. Be aware that Gorton specified a maximum cutter diameter of 1/2" for steel although I think you could likely swing a 3/4" or even a 1" with lighter a DOC.

You have the 2 speed motor on yours or the one speed? Up to 12,000 rpm with the 2 speed motor!
You do have the optional power downfeed which can be useful.

Looks like you got a ton of tooling. Hope a bunch of it is for the Gorton because finding Gorton taper tooling may prove difficult. It ain't easy finding the B&S 10 taper tooling for my Gorton 9J, probably even harder finding Gorton taper tooling. If there is a quick change chuck in there you'll be golden.

Keep us informed on how that Gorton runs. I for one am very curious about it.

The mill has a 2 speed motor. It says the top speed is 6000. It came with a lot of collets. I think I have pretty much everything I need for it. It should be a great machine for fine work....not so much for bigger heavier stuff. Slowest speed is 330. Now that I think about it, I noticed a tag on it that said either double the speed chart or halve it when changing from low to high. So maybe you're right about the 12000 top speed....or maybe it goes down to 165 in low. I was more interested in the lathe today. I had to pull the saddle off it. It had a bad thrust bearing that was allowing the gear to slide past the worm gear when I reversed feed direction. It's a very well made machine, but it's a bear to work on. Lots of head scratching going on today.
