Just a few pics of past gun-related projects; post 'em if you got 'em!

Here's an AR lower from a forging (magwell was machined/filed; not broached); machined 100% on a manual Bridgeport (too much work!):

I also made another one that wasn't complete; maybe 60-75%? It was for a friend who was contracted to build a display rifle for the traveling Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. I never heard what happened to it though...

I used to work for a place that specialized in AKM manufacturing; here was one of our first milled receivers:

Here's some delrin grip panels for a 1911 that I made; I cut the basic contour on the mill and then filed/sanded it:

Since I can't figure out how to edit my above post, here's a pic of the grips installed:

Here's another old project; turning one of the CMP's MANN barreled-actions into a rifle:

Turning the barrel profile down:

Drilling/tapping the '03A3 receiver for scope mounts (I know; I cringed too, but I somehow felt better knowing that this action was never built as a "rifle" before, and would now be given new life as one):

Custom flash hider I made for it:

I couldn't find an action wrench at the time, so I made one:

The project went from this:

Machining some M1919 internals for semi-auto:

Wow, that A3 is very cool, hardly recognized it. Nice work on the AR lower, the fit with the upper almost looks better than my Bushmaster!
I am hoping to carve one out of a block of 6061 once I get the drawing/Cam work done, and a little more experience on the CNC mill first.

Excellent stuff! I can't imagine how many hours you put into the AR lower. I have always thought it might be fun to cut an AK receiver out of billet aluminum.

Great looking gun smithing , was that barrel profiled on a CNC lathe?

Thanks all for the replies! I've machined AK receivers from 6061, but it was just to prove-out programs; not for actual use. I don't think the bolt lugs in the front trunnion would hold up for long...

Barrel was profiled on a manual lathe. The only reason I profiled it was because the original profile was very rough-turned; it seems the .gov was more interested in functionality as these were only used for ammunition development/testing.

And yes, the AR lower took MANY hours...no way I'd do it again...lol.

^ I meant "bolt lugs" in the post above.

Why can't I edit my own posts? Is that feature not available at all, or only after a certain number of posts?

You can edit your own posts (I have) but only for a short while then the option magically goes away?

I think you have 24 hours to edit your post, then you have to ask one of the Mods to do it. I'll fix it.
