My 111 / 4800 has the compound zero mark on the backside of the cross slide. Not very convenient, nor was it marked accurately.

First, I scribed a line around the compound's base. With the slide bare, I filed a flat nearly to that line.
Reinstalled the compound, and dialed it in true.
Took a sharp chisel and caught the corner in the zero or 90 line, slid it down to contact the flat, and gave it a sharp tap.

Much Better, and right on the money.IMG_20170203_084130979_HDR.jpgIMG_20170203_093526893.jpgIMG_20170203_094056599.jpgIMG_20170203_094334250.jpgIMG_20170203_094624582.jpg

So just to clarify based on pics.
You setup a test indicator and trammed the block on the crossslide. it by running the carriage back and forth.
Then you trammed the compound at 90 by using your new reference block.
Then you scratched it in.
Just for those who like me needed a second look to see what you had done.

Exactly right.
