Any idea what this chuck is for?

I got this in an auction lot. I’m not sure what it’s used for. Seems like a chuck that goes in a chuck with set screws for the shank? It says oneida National chuck co 1813.

There’s multiple adjusting screws on it. One of them closes and opens the jaws. Two others are dog point set screw looking things. Two others set the stops at the top.

Here’s a westscott chuck. From what I can tell they may of sued oneida. Maybe over the chuck design? Mine has more
Screws though. The chuck range isnt super large. Maybe 1/4-3/8?

Do you know what the side top small grub set screw things are for? They look like they are stops for opening it.
