I was doing some maintenance on my 11" Logan lathe. Model 957, manufactured about 1952. I removed the plug on the front of the carriage which I assume is where you check the level of the lubricant. I probed around with a piece of wire-tie and could not find any trace of oil. So... what kind of oil? Do I just add oil thru this hole or is there an easier way. I'm including a picture. The screw driver points to the plug.20230918_170802.jpg

I had the same question when I reconditioned mine. This is what I got from Scot Logan:

Use Mobil Vactra #2 anywhere on the Logan lathe that requires oil.

As long as it is a good quality ISO 68 and NON-detergent, it should be fine.

Way oil, such as the Vactra #2 has additives which help it cling to surfaces, so it doesn’t run off.
