What is this stuff Schaublin used to seal off the gearbox?

First of all I have to say that this Schaublin looks really great after almost 60 years. There are just some minor things I was able to find and one bearing that needs replacement.

The gearbox that connects the ram to the body is sealed of by some kind of woll or felt, but I have no idea what it is and what I should use to renew it.
I mean the black thing around the long gear.

Does anyone know what it should be?

Looks like felt to me. McMaster Carr sells sheets in varying thicknesses.

That is what I thought as well. We don't have McMaster Carr where I live, but we do have other retailers.

This is where the ram of a Schaublin 13 is mounted on top of. The long gear makes it possible for the ram to move 150mm.
