I saw how grease collected chips and abrasive, so I knew better than that, but did not have any dry lube. I may have to get some for next time I clean my chucks. This was my first time, as I just got my lathe recently and am just getting it up and running after a complete tear-down and functional restoration (not cosmetic).
 
Time for a test fit to make sure the lathe mounting pads are located properly and all the bolts line up. Things look good so just about time for some smoothing and paint. My goal is for the stand to look one piece without seams, all of the welds are ground smooth so with a little filler I hope to get the look I'm after.

Looks great! If you need to, Bondo would smooth out any trouble areas to avoid further heat. Looks like you'll have the option to anchor the stand to floor as well.. Did you Mig weld the frame after all? Again, nice work.
 
Thanks. My plan is a skim coat of bondo over the weld joints to fill in the divots and generally smooth it out. I used the mig welder for all the welds, even then it took a lot of time to weld and grind the joints. I usually never grind welds but I wanted this one to look as good as possible. Extra care was taken to get the frame as square as possible and the 2 mount plates were added last after all of the other welding was completed so I could get them in one level plane. I don't think I'll have to anchor it to the floor but I thought it was a good idea to add that feature to the pads welded to the end of the legs just in case. Every time I do one of these jobs I wish my weld table was bigger, this stand really pushed it to the limit.

You seem to have the affliction of perfectionism. Good for you!
Adjustable feet could be handy.
I've been machining cast iron and must clean the chucks every day/several times a day
Normally clean them several times a year or as needed.
 
Sandan_- That lathe stand is really nice. Great work, Now you got me thinking I wasted the money buying mine. I should have made one. I could have incorporated more storage and built it even sturdier. Hmmm...

I'm using the pan that came with the lathe. These pics are from a test fit, the pan and backsplash weren't installed. I wish I had ordered the lathe without the factory stand as they are only light gage sheet metal and in my case was causing some issues due to flex. The typical stands for a lathe this size also have limited storage so that was also a driving force to build my own. Here is a picture of testing the fit of the tool box, gives an idea of the extra storage.
