Is This Mill Right ?????

the design of the mill is FAULTY. AND,I fail to see the need for a UNIVERSAL table on a VERTICAL mill. Universal mill tables are designed to swivel to allow HORIZONTAL mills to cut spiral gears, gears with angled teeth, or spiral slabbing cutters.

Who ever designed this mill had little experience in machine design. As such,I'd wonder what foul ups might be found inside the head of that machine.

Hi
Yes it is the same one i missed, in May, time flies.
If you look at the photo the block is lower than the dovetails.
Have alook at photo 2

Even if the saddle could clear the housing for the cross feed handle,it would not be a good situation for the mill to operate with the saddle hanging off of its dovetail. That would be poor for proper table alignment on its main axis of travel (The X axis).
This mill is just plain messed up design wise.

Hi
The saddle would be ok to overhang by 3-4" the x axis would still be on top of the dovetail.
But unless he donated it for free, i am not going to take the chance, it may not work. ???

Ok it's just plain screwed up .trying to use different parts to make up a new model , no one would be willing to give very much money for it unless they don't know anything about using one , but it happens some poor dummy will end up with it and be out all the money . Or they will set it up to run one only job. Trying to make a small mill a big mill don't work.

You would be very surprised how many big companies put together hodgepodge stuff make it work and sell it every day. That's why engineers and machinists have a job.

Sent from somewhere in east Texas!

Do y'all know how to spell "platypus"? ;~)
