4910 lathe

I have a new to me 4910 lathe that I put a AXA tool post on. Was looking at purchasing some
carbide insert tool holder because in a box of stuff I bought I found a box of CCMT 06-02-02 inserts.
Does anyone have any experience with this and what shank size tool holder I should buy for the
inserts I have. I like the idea of 1/2 inch holders but am wondering if I can get the insert low enough
to center the cutting edge.

I would try grinding some 5/16 high speed steel. That is what i use mostly , unless I am turning a hardened piece of steel. It is cheaper than carbide. Will give a good finish on your lathe. It isn’t that hard to do. There is an excellent write up on how to grind tool bits on the forum.
