Hi all
I have been looking for a cross slide for my IME watchmakers lathe but it seems they are as rare as rocking horse poo, so I have purchased another watchmakers lathe including cross slide and other parts, some I know what they are for and some I don’t.

so If the knowledgeable people on here could help it would be much appreciated,

firstly I can’t find a makers name on it although most of the collets measure very close to Derbyshire and the very top of the bed measures 1 and 15/32” or 36.5mm, and it has had an extra indexing plate fitted and I know one of the brass parts Is the mount for the indexing pin

second the two black and brass poles have two pulley wheels on top of one of them I haven’t a clue what they are for.
Also the thing that looks a bit like a top slide but not sure what that is .

And last but not least various other handles and things plus a round knurled ring with two grub screws.

@Dell,

Can you try posting those photos differently....perhaps with high resolution.
If I click on them I actually get a smaller picture that the original!?!?
All I can see is tiny 1.5 x 3" thumbnails...it hard to make out any detail.
I can save them locally, but when I zoom in they're very pixelly.

Thanks,
-brino

Cool little lathe!

From what I can see of the headstock and bed, it does look like the Derbyshire:
http://www.lathes.co.uk/derbyshire/index.html

Could the extra parts be a grinding attachment like on page 2 at the link above?

This part:
1610806494000.png
looks like bed lock for the carriage, tailstock or some other device. That is, a plate and handle that go under the ways to lock the carriage/tailstock in position.

It looks like a slotting tool is currently in the tailstock.

For cutting gear teeth and key-ways.

Are the two pulleys on the other end of the part with the gear?
Are there any extra unused pulleys on the drive shaft?
Could the parts be either a carriage feed for screw cutting or some kind of "live tooling"?
Is there a rack?

Also, a picture of the entire lathe showing the bed and mounting "foot" would help in identification.

Here is a picture of the lathe set up on my lathe bench, also as you can see from the picture it has an extra indexing plate on back of headstock, and the tailstock is leaver operated, I like to know how to find out what tape it has.
thanks Dell

A couple of better pictures of head and tailstock, and the only thing I can see on the bed is number 13 .

Looking on lathes.co.uk my bed is identical to this Wolf Jahn.

Hi brino
You we’re correct I was wrong , it is a Derbyshire Magnus but with a Wolf Jahn cross slid, I found the stamping when I stripped it of the crap paint work to repaint it.
thanks for all replies Dell

@Dell,

Thanks for the reply; I am glad you got to the true lineage.

That is going to be one beautiful lathe when you get it finished!
I hope you update us with some more pictures.

Now that I see the bottom of the bed, I was wrong about this:
1610901240067.png
being a lock that goes on the bottom of the ways.

That shape is obviously made for the top side.

So for me the question is what is mounted in that centre hole?

Does it mount one of these:
1610901440447.png 1610901454732.png 1610901468615.png

...and if so, is it for milling, or screw-cutting feed, or something else?
