Don't be afraid to lube the hole in the concrete with JB Weld... wax the bolt, of course

I do remember that the part that got punched down was red and that they had four slits on the body for expansion.

No worries. I have a feeling my choices are going to be limited to what I can find in the local hardware store.

I used Redhead 'drop in' inserts - which are the type you set with a punch. Available individually at any of the big-box home stores. Example (Lowe's) .
