Cutting tool for huge lathe?

Is this for a huge lathe?

This is a 3/4" square deep hole threading bar.

Thanks, I wonder if I could use it on a small lathe to turn down aluminum and brass without issue? Obviously the stick-out would be very short, not even an inch.

I would probably use a normal size HSS tool for that.
 
I seem to remember This Old Tony using long tools like that when he had his shaper. Longer needed to get from the clapper box to the work.

Tool length depends on the complexity ( shape ) of the part being machined . Sometimes very long tools are needed to bypass obstacles such as boring behind shoulders on very large lathes . Most of the time these are shop made tools as they are custom tooling job specific . I have a lot of these types of tools from over the years . As far as you using it , sure . You won't be hanging it out but you'll need a CXA 3/4" holder at least.
