Hi Folks,

I maybe getting an old, but what looks like a very good condition Gallmeyer & Livingston model 20 Surface Grinder.
(6 x 18") table with magnetic chuck.

Should I?

Anyone have a manual.

The best I can tell this is a machine that was made around 1970. It is all cast iron, one piece, big, and weights in at about 2000#. The motor looks like new, but has a '93 written on it. So I assume it was a replacement. Also, it was pulled from a working shop years ago and never used since then. No obvious rust. All three axes handles rotate smoothly. I failed to check the spindle which may have been a big mistake on my part.

Any information would be appreciated. I could not find much on the web.

I ran a larger G and L surface grinder back in the 80s . Nice machine but we gravitated to the Okamotos and Brown and Sharps only because they were newer . Never had issues with the G & L though . Big machine , maybe 12" x 36" table .

The spindle bearings should be examined for noise/roughness, maybe end play, if not good, may be expensive to fix.

Good machine! Ran one in the late ‘70s. As stated, spindle bearings can be an issue.

Thanks Guys. Can one find parts if the spindle or its bears are worn?
