Was wondering about the best way to make this part, the oval shaped piece above the red cover. The outside shape doesn't really matter. It's the inside shape that's important. I know I could drill several holes and clean it up with a file but is there a better way? Thanks
A cutting torch or plasma cutter would work well for that if you have one. A little grinding for cleanup and you're done. Maybe start out with an exhaust flange and shape from there. That looks like what that one started out life as.
How to approach the problem really depends on what tools you have available.
A variable speed jig saw with a good bi metal blade would work to. If your careful some fine work (with a file touch up) can be done with a jig saw. Just go slow as to not burn teeth and wear eye protection. I must confess than my file work is a lot easier as I possesses a die filer
