It would be to make the travel per turn of the slide, cross slide, and tail stock match. As it is, it's 0.125, 0.200, and 0.250, or is it 0.250, 0.125, and 0.200? It means checking every time to make real sure it's dial that I think it is. I wonder how it ended up being this way.

Granted, if I had a DRO then it wouldn't matter... and the lathe is a delight to use, other than that.
