Resolved images not showing

Hi this is a recent problem thats just cropped up.
when an image is presented as a thumbnail and subsequently clicked on it opens the viewer screen but does not show the image, just a black blank screen.
If I right click and choose show in new window I get to see the bottom 2/3ds of the image only in that viewer screen.

I first noticed it when the image was posted as an attachment but going back it happens with all of them
