Just Got A 12x36p Jet Gap Bed Lathe, Where Do I Start To Breakdown And Clean Up??

I'm sure there are a lot of "old iron" lathes whose gap beds are not a problem to remove and replace. But given what I've seen in various posts, I'm suspicious of recent lathes especially recent ones, where the manufacturer just decided to add a "cool" feature to help sell it, with no regard to what happens when it's removed.

That said, a Jet lathe might well be OK.

John dennis thanks bub thats a great idea, those little brushes will do great. Would it be bad to use the red 3m brillow pads to clean up the ways and any other steel parts??

yes it will be bad
stay away from anything abrasive
an old fashioned razor blade will do the job
