Mentor Map Update - Great Start!

Would it be helpful to see locations about events, metal supply locations, or tool supplies?

Morning everyone, we have had a number of H-M members sign up for the member map:

Honestly dissappointed that there aren't any mentors in the Bahamas. :)

One question, and I've listed as a poll here. Would it be helpful to list another layer of information on the map for people? Something like sources of metal supply, tool supply or machine shows and swap meets?

If you are interested in being available for mentorship, or are seeking somebody in your area to learn from, go here and follow the instructions to get your name on the map. The idea here is to connect people geographically. One of the most common threads in the mentoring sub-forum is a question about whether somebody is, "in my area to learn from". Hopefully this map helps close that gap for H-M members.

I like the idea of adding good suppliers on the map, but only if different layers!

I just moved from Cleveland, OH and used to live near Chicago, so my top supply places are:
  • HGR, Inc. arguably the best place to find used machinery, tooling, electronics, robots, etc. in the Midwest. They buy a ton of used industrial surplus from something like 15 states. Prices start a bit high and drop over ~ 2 months. Whatever doesn't sell (not much) will be scrapped. The do sometimes accept best offers. https://hgrinc.com/

  • Small Tools, Inc. Used to be a brick and mortar store but now is online only (website & eBay). Great place for import and US lathe chucks as well as a ton of tooling at reasonable prices (not too many full machines though). https://www.ebay.com/str/smalltoolsincmachinesandtools

  • Shars Tool. Close to me when I lived in Chicago. My favorite import tool store. Better than average quality and great customer service. They have too much of my money...https://www.shars.com/

  • CDCO tools. Illinois local place. Used to be mail order, but now online shopping. Good quality and great prices on some limited items. Worth checking them out. http://www.cdcotools.com/
