anybody know what i'm in for there?

starting at the front.

about the oil line, the big nut on the oilpan looks easy to loosen and

the flange nut at the oilpump looks like it's on there pretty tight.

we'll see!:)

have a nice day!

Ya that will come off, just make sure you have a good fitting wrench, and be
carefull with the O rings which are flat like a garden hose rubbers. In the past
they would tighten as over kill. This is the suction side. And check the three
rivits on the oil pan (pipe goes) they always weeped.

gk

i just remembered i did want to take off

timing cover next.

i guess it makes more sense to get external

oil line off, drop oil pan and THEN take the

timing cover off.

there's a couple oil pan bolts that

go up into timing cover.

have a nice day!

took another look at the situation yesterday.

that's 6 oilpan bolts going up into timing cover.

regarding the 'external oil line', i think IT IS the

pickup itself.

it goes THROUGH the oilpan and has a strainer on the end.

saw that on the net!:)

it looks like best thing to do is take oilpan and pickup off together.

will drain oil somehow with engine on ground, might get it up

on blocks or something.

will post some pic's of progress.

have a nice day!

this is gasping and sputtering along here.:)

the oil pump nut seems to be bigger than 7/8"

the biggest open end wrench i have around

at the moment.

tugged on the oilpan nut with big adjustable

wrench and seems like it's stuck pretty tight.

can't use pipe wrench's because of this

engine's 'Vintage' status.

don't feel like paying $40 for replacement parts!:)

i'll keep hacking away here!:)

have a nice day!

oil pump is off!:)

without breaking or bending anything.

whether you do this with oil pickup still in the way or not

it's best to TAKE OFF OIL PUMP COVER AND TAKE GEARS OUT FIRST!

to slide the oil pump back off of the pickup tube

you need the oil pump shaft out and

it helps to have the gears out.

have a nice day!
