Hi,
I have an old South Bend 9A that came with a nice taper attachment. I want to buy a follow rest for it, but wonder if it is possible to mount it while the taper attachment is on the lathe. Would I need to remove the taper attachment in order to use a follow rest? If so, is it a big pain to reinstall the taper attachment?
Just wanting to know before I put any money up for a follow rest :)
Thanks guys!
Susan

My Southbend Heavy 10 has the holes for mounting a follower rest on the right side of the saddle between the bed ways. My Grizzly lathe has the holes on the left side.

I do not think the taper attachment would interfere with a follower rest. I have to say I prefer the holes to be on the left side of the saddle rather than the right.

Nope! The original follower rest on my 9" SBL mounts on the right side of the saddle between the ways. Never hear of one that would interfere with the taper attachment. Now, you can't used the follower rest on a tapered OD, it must be straight. Ken
