True and I’ll probably go that route but would of liked to keep the original framed motor up there.

I’m reading about rewinding now although tedious looks doable when properly mapped out.
 
From what I have seen, it is usually the insulated wires leading to the fields that have the insulation go bad and shorts out to the frame, (ground). On some motors, where the impedance / resistance of the coils is the same, I have had success with just replacing / insulating those leads. Bought a cheap Megger to check fields.
