Thanks to vtcnc for setting this sub forum up at my request. I am curious who if anybody besides me has a Sebastian lathe. The company was formed in 1891 in Cincinnati Ohio and were belt drive lathes then. Mine is a 1942 Model H 16 x 64. The one I have is the first one I ever saw or heard of, These were big gear drive lathes, many made for the WW ll effort. Every US submarine carried a Sebastian lathe. Popular for trade classes at one time. Sebastian was sold to Sheldon who made a Sebastian/Shelton, quite different. DC Morrison made them last, but had to scrap all their parts due to inventory tax. Sturdy, heavy lathes, no parts available. Hardest thing to find are chucks, as the spindle is 2 1/8 x 8 TPI. I am going to thread some chucks when I have time to ruin some round stock learning how. I wonder if there are other brands that use this spindle. If anybody has one or has parts, please let me know.

A friend I went to vocational school with back in the 70s gave me this sebastian several years ago. It had been torn apart for around 30 years and was droped off at my place in pieces. Its a M series bench top model that I was told it came out of a school shop years ago. It has a 13 in. swing 48in. bed and I would guess its from the 30s or 40s and is still making some chips.20240229_115322.jpg
