WTB Real Wrought Iron/Puddled Iron

I have a whole box of 5” X 5” .050” Grade 5 Ti sheet. The melting point of the Ti is over 200°F higher than that of Fe. That sounds like it might be a good candidate for a mold. Those two materials will not fuse together.

I could connect my grounding clamp to the Ti.

The Grade 5 Ti oxidizes quickly, so the outside of my “casting” will be contaminated. Again, that will be turned off on the lathe.

Or just buy pure iron (aka soft iron) round bar on Ali Express!

Now I see that the key was to search for “soft iron”. Amazon has bar & plate available, plus a rod that is .190” which is too thick to use as filler rod.

Apparently soft iron is good for electromagnets because soft iron does not retain any magnetism after the current is shut off.
