I get p i s s e d off reading these new products and then seeing the reviews, and then I see a stuipid photo, that shows the old unit being touted as the new unit, and the photo has the tires still attached. If I am lifting a motor out, I don't have the tires still attached. I remove them to remove the weight and annoyance of having them in the way. Next, it's the old lift... look at the pics carefully. and Only $369 for the 2t unit.. Of course only 2 years ago, the old unit was $129 to $159 depending. Now its $269. and no longer available.. and this is HOW MUCH BETTER?

edit: oh did I mention the photo, the crack (VOID) that this supposedly rolled over.

It certainly is a mixed bag out there and not just HF. It’s why I often buy used HF. What really annoys is probably 70% of the “reviews” now are “just got it, haven’t used it yet, but 5stars!” WTH?

I was complaining to my SO about our 12yld Dyson vac and she decided to get us a new one. After we got ours somebody posted my exact impression. Not better, not even close. Way heavier, stupider(the detail hose kinks at the handle and cuts off vac!) and the auto stand doesn’t. It takes minimum of two tries and often 3-4, on a brand new vac! It seems to clog with minute stuff and the thing howls like 747 at takeoff. Dyson used to be well engineered and well made. Not no more. More than likely it won’t quit, it will just annoy me to death. If I’d not given the old vac to Goodwill I’d send this POJ back.

when Dyson first came out, I mocked them. they were glorified dust collectors just smaller. As if he came up with the idea. I started seeing complaints about no filters, and the fact that dust was blowing around the house and causing people with asthma, issues. Someone took a particle meter and found that they were indeed putting a high particle count out. Shortly after that they had filters..
All the vac prices went up crazy because of them. Now they are not the highest price POS out there. I even bought one for Christmas for my wife a few years ago. Our German Shedder (Shepard) fills the rug with his hair, and this does a fair job at getting it out in a compact size. The problems is that it doesn't hold much hair, and the battery does not run as long as they claim.

I’m very sensitive to dander and dust especially. So the old Dyson was a boon for me. Long ago I took over vac duties because I got tired of it being plugged up all the time. Nobody would empty it or pick up stuff and instead I’d have to take it apart. So when I took over all that stopped and so did plugged over full vacs.

This new Dyson 2x’s the $$ and 1/2 as good. But now just as good as all the other junk vacs out there. Whatchagonnado?

My HF Cherry Picker serves it's purpose but I find it a little scary to use on 4cyl engines I can't imagine pulling the engines I used to in the 80s. Primarily BB Fords and Chevys with trans attached. Those pickers were BEEF.

For the vacuum. I still use my Kirby that was bought new by my former MIL over 30 years ago. It does the trick and then some.
My now ex wife got suckered into being a salesperson for them so she had a demo unit. I've seen the comparison side by side to other vacs. The Kirby won every time.
The Demo unit was simple. It was a regular Kirby with a special device instead of a bag. It had something like a coffee filter installed. You'd have the homeowner vacuum a section of their carpet with their vacuum. Then you'd vacuum the same section with the Kirby and show them all the crap in the filter.

(The problem with the Kirby is that it's still a scam. They replace the "salesperson" with a closer as soon as the customer shows interest. Then the closer starts negotiating a price for the vacuum. Back in 1990, the starting point was $1300. They'd go as low as $450 but the salesperson didn't get a commission at that sales price. )

Lord won't you buy me a vintage
Electrolux
(wouldn't mind a Mercedes either)

My parents had a Kirby and the thing was superior to any vacuum I've used since. Weighed a metric ton though.
You aren't lying.

I forgot to add that one of the great things about Kirby's is that they aren't throwaway. You can buy parts for them and repair them.
If you see one at a Goodwill, pick it up and replace the impeller. Usually as good as new.

I have had both of these experiences with HF engine hoists and HF engine stands. They were made for 4-bangers. Even with a 4-cyl the stands still are tippy and the hoist can't be used at full reach. Folding my hoist at full ram extension was a separate event that I earned credit for, but having to weight the back of the hoist in a panic while pulling a 1.3l without the trans is silly.

There must be some simple fix to make these seemingly rudimentary tools functional. As purchased, it's as if these are designed to fail. They probably engineered them to fail 99% of the time, but the factory botched it 'cause it's Harbor Freight, so they only fail 40% of the time, missing their intended goal. Since it doesn't do what it's supposed to, it meets the HF gold standard, and they continue to be sales leading items.
