I have ordered from them before with no problems. But 2 months ago I ordered a collet chuck and back plate. Payed with PPal. About a week later I received an e-mail they were backordered. That was 2 months ago. Tried to call and got no answer. Have sent several e-mails that have not been answered. I you check their site you will fine several different e-mail addresses.

Anybody else having problems?

yes,
I have ordered from them before, and whatever was out of stock was removed from my order (I was not charged for it). I tried contacting them to find an alternative solution but could not get any replies from them. I would only recommend ordering from them something that is found to be in stock.

Who are they and what is the country of origin? I never heard of them before now. ------ "Billy G"

they are located in California, just south of L.A. I believe

I am guessing out of someones garage/barn possibly a one person operation low key, import and sell nationwide sort of a deal.

Got a link to them? I have friends in that area. They can go check? ------ "Billy G"

they are one of the few places that actually carry back plates compatible with the clausing 4900/5900 lathes. they have decent prices for what they carry, but their culprit is lack of communication.

well I got him on the phone and expained the proplem. He seemed concerned and said he would get back to me. I'll let you know what happens.

AMTOOLS is or was the ever so popular seller 800watt on ebay. When 800watt disappeared from ebay I search & read that he was then AMTOOLS. He doesn't list nearly as much on the website than what he offered on ebay. Sells the typical budget import stuff but for much cheaper than everyone else. I never had a problem buying from him on ebay or with what I purchased but there are a number of people who did have issues with him. I haven't placed an order yet on his site though. He also sells on Amazon. Not sure if it's still the same person though now. I wish he was still selling all that he did on ebay, they were very good prices.

As I stated here, and in my past clausing lathe related posts - while I found communications to be subpar, amtools is still one of the few places that carries (or at least carried) the uncommon threaded back plates for the clausing 49xx/59xx lathes (1 3/4 x 8tpi) at the most reasonable price point.

Ditto what Sharon said. I was ordering a 1-3/4" x 8 back plate for my Clausing, and figured I'd might as well pick up some other cheap stuff. So I ordered some HSS tool blanks and some brazed carbide tools. Communication was not great but my stuff eventually arrived.

The backplate was $24.99. The only other place I could find them was in the Shars catalog (for some reason they don't have that size listed online) and they were in the $75.00 range.

Guess you get what you pay for.
