My wife's car has free oil changes at the Chevy dealer so we went in yesterday morning.

As I sat in the waiting area I picked up a Popular Mechanics magazine and started thumbing through it. An article on the new 95 Caviler caught my eye.

95???? What??? Took a moment for me and I looked at the cover and it was a Popular Mechanics from 1994. There were other old ones also.

Odd a Chevy dealer couldn't afford a magazine from the current decade and not ones that are 25 years old.

I completely agree with what you say. I remember using some of the ideas I got out of PM.

I was just surprised at finding a 25 year old magazine there, and in such good condition.

When I was on my twenties and thirties, I had subscriptions to bot Popular Mechanics and Popular Science. I know that I have forty year old issues squirreled away in my barn, probably on fairly good condition. It's possible that the owner of the dealership bought a collection and decided to place them in his/her waiting room instead of more contemporary magazines.

There is some interesting stuff in thoise old magazines, particularly Popular Mechanics. Years ago, Americans were more of a do it yourself than buy it. Here is a link to all of the PM magazines published since day 1. https://books.google.com/books?id=5dcDAAAAMBAJ&q=
Thanks for the link. Very interesting stuff. I looked at the first issue of Jan. 1905. 10 cents or $1 per year. There were nearly 200 pages. All kinds of good stuff too. There are hundreds of short tips, some of which are still useful. Lots of interesting ads too. My how things have changed.:)

I used to enjoy popular mechanics. When they made the type face so small that it was no longer readable I quite resubscribing. I don't know what they were thinking... save money on printing... alienate all your subscribers!

They can't afford new magazines because they are paying for free oil changes:tranquility:

Good to hear someone else owns a Chevy besides me!

I spent many hours flipping through 1960's PM magazines when visiting my in-laws. It's like going back to a better time.

We own 5 Chevy's dating from 1955 to 2014. And one Pontiac. (the black sheep of the family)

I had a 63 biscayne when I went to college, Now have a 18 Volt because gas here is $5.20/US gal
