Now that I gave my mill running well and the lathe too, i have many chips and curls on the garage floor. When I go inside, I see swarf on the carpet at the entry. How do y’all keep the Chios in the shop? I’m going to try shop shoes left at the door. What do YOU do?

Clean your work area after use and leave the shoes in the garage. It is a habit to brush off my clothes before leaving the shop. I also do a shake down of my clothes and shop apron making care the pockets are empty before washing. A pre-soaking with Dawn dish soap really helps to remove oil.

You have the correct idea to change your shoes at the door. It is also worth checking your clothing and hair, etc. for chips and other crud. Leave it in the shop! A large mirror helps.

Great help. A mirror. Great idea. I’ll get s chair to change.

When I'm making a part, especially when I have to shave down a considerable portion of aluminum, I stop periodically and sweep. Rather than waiting till the part is done, I sweep up several times. When I feel the chips crunching under my shoes, then it's time for a sweep. Then, when you go inside, there's less chips embedded in your tennies. I use a utility knife blade to scrape the shoe bottoms over the garbage can.
Steel chips are the worst, they are sharp and go in deep. Better shoe rubber than flesh
My shop teachers were bears about cleaning up, else you'd get a bad grade

I was fortunate as I had metal shop in both jr. high and high school. Late 60s to early 70s

My shop is about a twenty five foot walk from the house across a gravel driveway and I purposely drag my feet a bit on the way to the house where I have a stiff door mat to rub my shoes on. Seem to bring a nice sharp chip in now and then for She Who Must Be Obeyed to step on no matter how hard I try to be sure my clothes are chip free. All the suggestions above are spot on and in my opinion are top notch solutions but I think chip free is going to be almost impossible.

I agree on keeping chips out of the house is nearly impossible. I do all the precautions, sweep, change shop clothes in garage. Have a 30 feet walk from the shop to the house. They isn’t any more annoying thing is having your better half stepping on a chip.
