I was going to work and to my shock and horrer the car behind me did a 360 degree on the highway and I thought he was going to roll.I thought he was maybe on his cellphone. It happens my ladder fell off and I nearly could have killed him.
I decided to make a better system than rope or straps so copied this off the internet.

But it was agonizingly slow to wind the clamp bar down so I needed a quicker system. I came up with this quick nut.I can now also lock my ladder which is good because theft is a big problem in my country.

tell us how the quick nut works. would be great for the large wing nut on propane bottles on trailers.

A secondary hole is bored at an angle through the threaded hole so the nut can be canted at an angle to slide on. Then when the nut is returned to straight the threads engage the bolt on the top on one side of the bolt and the bottom on the other side of the bolt.

was it trial and error to get the angle, I will have to make some of them

thanks for advice I will try that. that is funny I put a protractor on the image you put up and got 75 degrees just what you came up with

On fire engines we have spring clamps that keep the ladders in place. That D handle in the middle has a few inches of travel with a strong spring, so you pull, rotate and secure the hook over a rung. There are typically two of these one near each end of the ladder. Very secure and much faster than a nut.

I wish people around here would make these. I see too many ladders in highway lanes or on the side of the road with more than just road rash on them.
