I've been seeing this vixen hanging around the neighborhood--guessing she's about to have kits or already has them. This morning I looked over at my shop from my home office and she's curled up on the porch. Guess I have a new shop dog? Einstein and Buddy don't seem to happy with the new neighbor! You have to look closely at the porch and steps up to the road. There are some better views of her in the second video.

Foxes keep the rodent population down but they occasionally like a chicken dinner too.
So they're likely to be taken out if a chicken comes up missing here..................

We get a lot of foxes in town now. Used to be they avoided town like the plague but after the coyotes moved east the foxes out in the country disappeared and the survivors took up residence in town. They have gotten pretty well adjusted to moving around when the people are inside. The coyotes are far less likely to come into town, even if there is fox on the menu.

I remember seeing a fox about 1/4 mile from the house shortly after we moved here 6 years ago. It was a scrawny little thing. This one is bigger--I'd guess 12-14 lbs or so--with a full coat and beautiful tail, and obviously has a den on or near our property. I was initially worried about her attacking the dogs, but from what I've read it's unlikely.

Guess you have to get them young, but this is a cute video.

My 16yo son was playing with a wild baby raccoon a couple of weeks ago. Texted me some cute photos, then another text that it bit him. He had his final rabies shot today, yes it was rabid.
