Hello all. New member here with a lathe from the Nash Kelvinator plant. I thought I would share some pictures before posting any questions. I have ordered a few manuals of the era that I was able to find.

Keep us updated, and ask Away. It is looking good. How did you get it? Did it come as a pile of parts?

joe

The PO cleaned and Bagged most of the parts and did most of the painting work, then lost interest. He landed a great deal on a 16" inch lathe and I was able to pick up this project for $500.00.

After our first evening together I started mocking things together trying to understand how the pieces parts work.IMG_20200601_204611488.jpg

Nice score on the lathe, and much of the work already done. Is the ink on that receipt original? Now days it seems receipts fade to nothing on the way home from the store. Cheers, Mike

This is how she sits today. I need to figure out how the pulley assemblies on the underside are assembled. specifically how the collar with the taper pinIMG_20200607_005439739.jpg adjacent the v belt pulley and bushing is installed. One way its very tight the other way it has a half inch side to side travel.

Unfortunately I just have a scanned version of the receipt. Its either the LEAD in the ink or the ASBESTOS in the paper that made the document last that long Right?? (synicism intended, lol).

These assy's were drilled in place for the taper pin. There should be only one way for it to go together. Find out which direction the shaft was reamed for the taper pin (use a new pin and note the depth it goes in from both directions), then repeat that for the bushing. Once you have this info, the orientation is obvious.

You scored Milan.
Taper attachment and all.
Is there a WW2 war production tag anywhere?
How are the ways? Spindle, tailshaft, cast iron bearings? Or brass inserts?

Sorry for the poor description....Here is my terrible drawing rendition. The bushing in question has serrations at one face and is smooth on the other face. WHile its true that the allen screw will only go in one way, the question is should the serrations be oriented towards the bushing or towards the drum pulley? If I install with the serrations toward the bushing (and Vbelt Pulley) there is the slight rubbing. If I install the serrations toward the drum puller there is alot of play un the shaft.
