3 phase power supply

Will this drive run a PM dc motor or does motor have to have field and armature.

It will, but the load regulation won't be great. For small gearmotors only
That unit might make a passable supply for a magnetic chuck

The Toshiba you showed could be run on single phase 240 volts at reduced power, possibly
Don't buy old electronics without checking them out first
Lots of people trying to offload obsolete useless junk
Free is always good, worst case is you end up tossing it- or maybe use for parts

Just thinking out loud. With 3 phase power is there any significant difference between AC and DC motors? Another of my vices is radio controlled airplanes. I’ve been flying fuel powered planes since I was a kid and smaller electric powered planes for about 10-12 years so the thought is based on previous experience. The brushless motors are wound exactly like 3 phase machinery motors with Wye or Delta windings. The controllers output 3 phase square wave power instead of interwoven sine waves. Point being, even if the motor from the commercial treadmill was DC, wouldn’t it most likely work on a VFD?
 
The guys with the knowledge will see this at some point. I have several 3-4.5 hp dc motors. Couple 3 phase off medical treadmills. Specs say 4 hp. Tag on both say special in hp specs label on motors. Probably more like 2hp.

"Brushless DC" motors are 3-phase AC motors with permanent magnet rotors-kind of a hybrid
VFDs output a "chopped" waveform but it's essentially like AC since it's bipolar and resembles a sine wave
You in theory could rectify the output of a VFD and power a DC motor- may or may not work in practice
The microprocessor may not understand the type of load characteristic it's being presented with- may also damage
the output stage-might work fine with some units, but it's a roundabout way to get there
Three phase square wave power is still bipolar AC, not unipolar DC

Takes a while to get familiar with electronics- don't feel bad, most people don't understand any of it
