Picked up a 3 jaw cushman chuck for free. The guy that gave it to me said he had no use for it in his shop now that it was all redone.
The only lathe in the shop it could fit would be a South Bend heavy 10,same as mine, but I can't see it fitting on a 2 1/4 spindle.I am guessing that everyone's memory is not clear or it had a mounting plate that I am not familiar with.
I plan on getting or making a plate to fit my Rockwell/Delta lathe so I'm really just curious if it could have been used on a heavy 10 SB.
Almost all searches I've done don't include 4 inch cushman, all start at 6 inch.
The only 4 inch ones are a couple listed on ebay.
I'm also wondering if it was a chuck for a milling machine indexer or other use.
Things are slow these days so I decided to look into this chuck while I'm not too busy.
Thanks

There is no backplate, so no telling what it was on.

I have a 5" cushman 3 jaw for my SB9.

That's what is known as a plain back chuck . You need to make the appropriate back plate to fit your lathe .

I do not see it as being too useful with only one set of jaws.

I was thinking that making one would most likely be my only option, plus.it will be mounted on my Rockwell/Delta 1460 lathe to be used on wood, plastic and maybe light aluminum work so it's a nice project piece.
