I've had occasional thoughts about building machine bases with fiber reinforced concrete. I think they would be very solid, but I could probably weld up a steel one in less than the time it took to build a mold. I made a fiberglass belt shroud for one of my shapers and got it all smooth (well mostly, I'm not quite done yet) and while it will look slick, I could have cut and welded a sheet metal one in a fraction of the time. It was a nice experiment to see how much time it took to do, but it wasn't that practical. I think the concrete machines, at least for me, fall into the same category. They are like Gingery machines, interesting, and I don't knock those who want to make them, but not worth the effort for me.
