Hello folks,
I'm seriously considering a simple pony start RPC. I will be using a 1/2 hp motor to spool up my 10 hp, 9 lead Lincoln dual Voltage motor, 3500 rpm, will wire for 240V/24 A. I'm looking at this simple schematic post #1: http://www.shopfloortalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24644
I intend on balancing the 3 phase legs later once running. I am not very familiar with motor start and protection devises so I thought I'd get some opinions if you would be so kind. I was looking at this contactor http://www.ebay.com/itm/171312050293?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT. Will this do? Can you lead me to a matching thermal overload protector? Low cost objective tends me towards surplus/eBay hunts. The pony motor will be separate and actively/manually operated and cut off then mechanically disconnected from the idler. Thanks.

Yes the contactor you list will work, You could consider a three phase breaker instead since you are switiching and starting manually. I placed all of mine in a spare metal box above the rpc. Like you I just used what I had handy. Good Luck!
