I bought a Logan powermatic 1955 last year and this compound was in the cabinet with a bunch of other odds and ends. The center pivot hole is tapped. Not sure if that is original or someone tapped it. It has 4 gib screws and all the logans I see have 3 him screws. Also the hexagonal feeds crew retainer is also throwing me off. 20190104_193029.jpg20190104_193034.jpg20190104_193052.jpg20190104_193126.jpg20190104_193609.jpg20190104_193741.jpg20190104_193758.jpg20190104_193029.jpg20190104_193115.jpg20190104_193029.jpg20190104_193034.jpg20190104_193052.jpg20190104_193126.jpg20190104_193609.jpg20190104_193741.jpg20190104_193758.jpg20190104_193115.jpg20190104_193029.jpg20190104_193034.jpg

Here is the only marking on the casting and a pic of the front graduations. 20190104_193500.jpg20190104_193107.jpg

It looks like a Logan part. With the tapped hole in the bottom, maybe it was used as a fixture
off the lathe for some other purpose.

I'm thinking south bend. After looking at all the ebay compounds and comparing it to my 2 logans, the top casting has a hole by the cross feed nut like the south bends and the profile by the front graduations on the bottom casting is different from the logans. What threw me off is the bottom casting. That swivel set up looks like it belongs on a logan 200 or 820. The majority of South Bends have that large tapered swivel boss. I did see one south bend compound advertised as a 1931 11 inch which had the same 3 hole bottom swivel setup with a smaller non tapped hole in the center so it looks like it was tapped at some point and probably intended as a fixture as nogoingback suggested. It did have 2 steel angles screwed to the top of the toolpost slot with a bolt running through it as if it were a vise used to hold work. Possibly a poor mans milling attachment? Other differences I see are the 1930 top compound did have a second hole in the center to oil the cross feed screw which mine does not have. Also all the south bends that I see have 4 gib screws while the logans have 3. The hexagonal cross feed nut is very rare and I have only seen it on 2 south bends. One person was selling a similar hexagonal nut as a logan so who knows?
