Evening,

I need to cur some 1-1/2" round stock on my 4x6 horizontal bandsaw. As I tighten the movable jaw, the stock rides up unevenly. What would be the appropriate setup to cut this stock? Unfortunately, I do not have any v-blocks to sandwich the round stock in.

Thanks!

I have routinely cut 3" rounds on my 4 x 6 with no problems. My guess is that you have excessive clearance in the screw holding the rear jaw to the lead screw nut, allowing the jaw to tilt.. Try adding a shim washer to tighten.

As a last resort, you could use a C clamp to hold the work down.

It sounds like the bolt that holds the moveable jaw is too loose, causing the jaw rock back under pressure. I’ve had problems with small round stock spinning in the vise, but not big stuff.
