Driving my lathe with a servo

I am thinking of powering my little 7 1/2" x 30 Cromwell lathe with a 750w servo and driver in velocity mode. Like this one http://www.aliexpress.com/item/FREE...ors-and-driver-AS80-30-024E25/1845162008.html
obviously it is a cheap Chinese offering however positional accuracy is a non issue.
Does anyone have experience with this sort of setup?

If the hardware is any good, then it should work fine. It should give you accurate speed control from 0 to maximum speed, and good torque through out the speed range.

If it was made by a well known manufacturer I would see no problem, but given the source, who knows.
