How to Open up Kitchen Counter for Cooktop?

Or since we are all hobby machinists and always looking for another project, you could head for the shop and make an adapter.
 
This thing should have dropped in in 20 minutes. I had to drive 20 miles to get a diamond blade. Then I saw the conduit issue. Another 20-mile drive for a squeeze fitting and new handy box. Dust coated the whole kitchen. It may be a couple of days before I really get it cleaned up.

Hope the respirator did its job.

At least I have a real cooktop now. The old coils plus useless space-hogging "grill" were not getting it done.
