Tried to start my lathe tonight on the RPC and cant get it to run. The chuck will start to move but then stop and the magnetic contactor is chattering. Dims the shop lights when it chatters. I am going to have call a electrician and have them check everything out.

Has it been working ok until now? What brand/model lathe?
Might be a challenge to find an electrician who will even go near a RPC (or knows what it is, for that matter)

on the surface, it sounds like you may be using the generated leg for control purposes.
You can only use supplied legs to go to the transformer
