I Guess I'm A Van Norman Guy Now

Wow! Thanks for the cool information and the brochure. It's neat to see what options were offered for it and I suppose the "subhead" would be a rare find these days.

I'll have a further look at the taper this morning to see if I can ID it. Curious though about parts still. I realize that there are no parts still available but does anyone know if the spindle bearings are something that can still be bought? Were they standard industrial bearings or specials for VN?

I noticed in the brochure that the castings are "semi steel". Does anyone know what this means. Are they meehanite?

Someone on this board contacted Timken and said they are no longer being made. You might be able to find some NOS, but they were in the $400 range each.

Thanks Jason. I'd be curious if anyone knows the numbers on them.

I had a look at the spindle and the collet holder that I have. It's a little smaller than an R8 and looks like it may have been modified a bit. The drawbar looks to be a piece of threaded rod with a nut welded on the end.

Thats not factory. Like you said, looks like a modified R8.

Interesting.
